About the Show

In MYTH, Broken Box transports us to a foreign planet with two moons. Cue the alien flora and fauna! It is here, in a seemingly idyllic village among the extraterrestrial jungles, that a pair of unlikely lovers make a life-changing discovery.

MYTH uses speculative fiction and the vast storytelling power of the body to explore the cyclical nature of remembering, revising, and forgetting our history. How might the wisdom of our flawed ancestors still guide us? Where are we currently situated in our own cultural remembering? When we zoom out and expand our timeline, can we better ground ourselves in the present?

All shows will be followed by an informal Sip N’ Chat, where we share tea, cookies, and conversation at the theater!

Affinity Nights & With Words Series

Each Monday, Friday, and Saturday from 9/28 - 10/10, we will have a night dedicated to a certain community. (You do not have to be part of this community to buy a ticket on an affinity night - all are welcome!) These shows will be followed by our With Words Series, which features a post-show talkback between the cast and a special guest who is a leader in their field. Special guests announced on our website and social media prior to performance!

  • Mon 9/28: Dancer Night for our colleagues in the dance community

  • Fri 10/2: Activist Night, our way of saying thank you!

  • Sat 10/3: Deaf Night! ASL interpretation provided for pre- and post-show

  • Mon 10/5: Industry Night for our colleauges in Theater

  • Friday 10/9: Teacher Night for full time educators. We see you!

  • Saturday 10/10: Global Night for mixed-language audiences! The format/translation of the With Words talkback will be posted online prior to the show.

NEW: Pre-Show First-Timers Guide

New to Mime? Arrive 30 minutes early to get a live tour of some of the visual language in the show, as well as an overview of mime technique and vocabulary. Led by one of our company members, this is an informal opportunity to familiarize yourself with a new artform. If you are someone who likes to listen to an audioguide at the museum, or research the plot of an opera before attending, this is for you! Others are encouraged to come with fresh eyes at curtain time. The Guide will last 15-minutes and begin at 7p for a 7:30p curtain, 1:30p for a 2p curtain. All performances with an asterisk * on the calendar above will offer this program, no RSVP required.

Accessibility

All performances of MYTH will welcome audience vocalization. During our run, our website will include a “visual story” with step-by-step photos from the subway to the theater, for those who wish to prepare for their visit. When purchasing a ticket, you will be prompted to share any additional access needs so that we may accommodate them.

MYTH will be performed without any spoken language. We will provide a written description of the show's music design, accessible upon arrival.

For our Deaf audience members, we will have ASL Interpretation provided during our 10/3 Deaf Night for pre- and post-show engagement. Would you like an interpreter on a different night? Let us know in the tickets and we'll provide one!

Relaxed Performance

Our Relaxed Performance on Sunday 10/11 at 2p is designed for individuals with disabilities and parents with very young children who may make involuntary noise during the show. Instead of lights only on the stage, our “house lights” will be kept on at a low glow during the Relaxed Performance. The door to the small lobby will remain open during the show. All are welcome at this performance! If you have trouble staying focused while there is movement or noise around you, we suggest picking a different showtime.
